Colina Noua is an ambitious new ecovillage located 20 minutes north of Cluj, Romania. It endeavors to re-think the standard of living for Romanians. Since the fall of Communism some 30 years ago, Romania has seen disinvestment in education, infrastructure, and the public sphere. For the first time in history, Romanians are returning to their native land, and the city of Cluj is seeing an uptick in population, as it has rebranded itself as the tech capital of Eastern Europe. This development was established with the intention of high-density development lending to greater land conservation that can be utilized for agriculture and recreation.
